GreenVolts is constructing a 2 MW CPV power plant to fulfill a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E).

The power plant takes advantage of GreenVolts’ ability to produce utility scale power on the distribution grid and it is being built in close proximity to PG&E’s customer base near Tracy, CA. The project is expected to jumpstart economic development in the area, creating a number of local cleantech related jobs, and will help reduce CO2 emissions as it produces power for more than 1500 homes.

“[The GV1 Project] provides PG&E with a clean, reliable, and cost efficient way to deliver additional solar power to our customers,” said Fong Wan, Vice President of Energy Procurement, PG&E. “By harnessing the power of the sun’s rays in a scalable way, we are taking a significant step towards reaching California’s renewable portfolio goal of supplying twenty percent of our customer needs with qualifying renewable energy by 2010.”
